Massive middle finger displayed on Town Hall

Town Halls across Kirklees yesterday replaced the usual flagpole and Union Jack arrangement with an enormous middle finger as former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was buried in London.

Councillors had debated whether to fly the national flag at half-mast, but a last-minute compromise was struck whereby flagpoles were to be replaced by the controversial extended middle finger.

"The thought was to fly the flag at half-mast", one council insider told the Scrutiniser, "but then we thought 'why stop there?' and instead of insulting large numbers of locals by having this tribute to the person largely responsible for the post-industrial wasteland that Kirklees has become, we could piss the whole lot of them off by giving them the finger".

Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney said "it's what she would have wanted - one final opportunity to tell the north to go fuck itself".
